Drew Pace | For mixed voices, piano, and cello with solo divisi | Performance time: 6'
A sweeping, dramatic treatment of Charles Wesley's beloved hymn, set to a new tune. The work provides an individualistic opportunity to experience the emotional depths of the hymn, and takes time to vividly paint the author's text. Features a sumptuous piano accompaniment and a striking cello solo. The choral parts are designed to be approachable for the singer. Even in complex moments, a comfortable tutti line grounds the choir as solos for small groups of singers take flight. This work would be appropriate for an advanced highschool or collegiate choir, sacred concerts, and services of worship where a six-minute anthem is desired.
The work received its world premiere in April, 2026.
Chamber orchestration available on request.
